چکیده

The supersonic wind tunnel facility SBR-50 at the University of Notre Dame was built in 2015 for experimental research related to shock wave (SW) interactions with obstacles and boundary layers (BL) as well combustion a plasma-based flow control. Currently, provides following range parameters test section area nozzle exit 76.2 × mm: Mach number M=2 4, total pressure p0= 1–4 bar, stagnation temperature T0= 300–775 K, typical duration steady-state t= 0.5–2 s. One distinct feature is Ohmic gas heater installed long plenum section. Objective this study characterize facility, specifically dynamics temperature. Two measuring methods were applied collection detailed dataset: thermocouple measurements schlieren-based thermal mark (laser spark) velocimetry. data are compared 3D Navier–Stokes modelling over entire flowpath. Particularly, proves that original schematics (the concept virtual piston plenum) allow longer operation constant volume adiabatic cooling stored gas.

Supersonic Combustion Flow Visualization at Hypersonic Flow

Currently, a new generation of scientific aerospace vehicles, using advanced hypersonic airbreathing propulsion based on supersonic combustion technology, is in development at several research centers [1]. The 14-X Brazilian Hypersonic Aerospace Vehicle, Figure 1, designed by Rolim et al. [2], at the Prof. Henry T. Nagamatsu Laboratory of Aerothermodynamics and Hypersonics, Figure 2, at the Ins...

Determination of Shock Standoff Distance for Wedge at Supersonic Flow

An experimental investigation is conducted to calculate the shock standoff (SSO) distance in front of an acute-angled wedge. For this experimentation, simple water flows channel analysis is carried out. The flow velocity is varied from 13.2 cm/s to 25.5 cm/s increasing in steps of 1 cm/s. A velocity of 13.2 cm/s corresponds to Froude number 1.13 and velocity of 25.5 cm/s to Froude number 1.41. ...

Control of Nozzle Flow Using Microjets at Supersonic Mach Regime

This article reports the active control of base flows using the experimental procedure. Active control of base pressure helps in reducing the base drag in aerodynamic devices having suddenly expanded flows. Active control in the form of microjets having 0.5 mm radius placed at forty-five degrees apart is employed to control the base pressure. The Mach numbers of the present analysis are 1.7, 2....

Supersonic air flow due to solid-liquid impact.

A solid object impacting on liquid creates a liquid jet due to the collapse of the impact cavity. Using visualization experiments with smoke particles and multiscale simulations, we show that in addition, a high-speed air jet is pushed out of the cavity. Despite an impact velocity of only 1 m/s, this air jet attains supersonic speeds already when the cavity is slightly larger than 1 mm in diame...

Temperature structure functions for air flow over moderately heated ground

We study temperature structure functions of second, fourth, and sixth orders at heights of up to 2 m above the ground in moderately heated atmosphere. Most of the data come from measurements over salt flats of the Utah desert, with well-defined wind direction and uniform temperature boundary conditions. As in high-Rayleigh-number convection in a closed container, a thermal boundary layer develo...
